Curative, Medicinal Uses and Benefits.

What are (EOs) made up of?

Essential oils are a rich source of biologically active compounds. They are obtained from many different parts of certain plants and there are some such as orange oil that can be derived from different parts of the plant. They are usually oily in nature ie, lipophilic compounds that usually are not compatible or does not mix well with water. Other plants include Peppermint, Almond, Thyme, allspice, Cinnamon, Bergamot, Junniper, Basil, Camphor, Chamomile, Rose, Peppermint and a lot more. Many common oils have medicinal properties that have been applied in folk medicine since ancient times and are still widely used today.

Today, most of these common E Oils, such as lavender, peppermint, and eucalyptus, are distilled. If you look at the old history, Mankind has been using it for their curative and medicinal benefits such as providing relief from cancer and skin treatments.

Benefits and uses of Essential Oils
Especially essential carnation oils are also claimed to have an uplifting effect on the mind. Recently, there has been spreading demand for use of these oils, especially because of the increased popularity of aromatherapy, which is an offshoot of alternative medicine that claims that different aromas contained in EOs can be used for their curative properties and many of these oils have antiseptic properties.

Essential OilsHowever, one should not apply these oils directly to the skin because it has a concentrated nature that can cause severe irritation or even cause an allergic reaction if used in undiluted form. Extracts from hexane and other hydrophobic solvent are called concretes, which is a mixture of EOs, waxes, resins, and other lipophilic (oil soluble) plant material.

 It would be better to blend them with a base or fixed oil before applying it, and some of the common base oils include olive, hazelnut, almond as well as grapeseed. Due to the large quantities of oil in citrus peel and the relatively low cost to grow and harvest the raw materials, citrus-fruit oils are cheaper than most other essential oils.

Some Caution regarding application of Essential Oils

Sometimes a solvent such as hexane or supercritical carbon dioxide is used to extract the essential oils. Those who need to use it should :-

  • Read up their safety material
  • Know how to properly handle the particular oils
  • Get to know the different hazards posed by these oils
  • Learn correct application before using it for therapeutic purposes.

Some oils can be toxic to some domestic animals, cats in particular. Therefore it is much advisable to use organic essential oils. Many of these have true medicinal and curative properties that are been applied in therapeutic medicines since long from ancient times and they are still been widely used today.
